In response to the article, “Flesh Club Owner Heads Medical Pot Effort”, we would like to set the record straight.
The article states that Mr. Welty lead the signature gathering effort against the city ordinance, the signature gathering effort for the referendum was spearheaded by the group Citizens for Patient Rights, was supported by the Patient Care Association as a whole, and was not the exclusive or principal effort of any one person
The article also states that Randy Welty “leads” the Patient Care Association. The Patient Care Association is a transparent, democratic organization, that was neither founded nor lead by one single person and is proud to represent 60+ responsible, law abiding collectives in San Diego for the purposes of self-regulation, government and community outreach. The Patient Care Association is currently directed by a temporary board consisting of nine members. Mr. Welty is a single member on this temporary nine member board.
Another board member generally moderates the general meetings, though Mr. Welty has stepped up to moderate meetings on occasions when the principal moderator was not available.
The PCA is aware of the old accusations against Mr. Welty, and they do
not disqualify him from being a member of their temporary governing board.
Citizens for Patient Rights and the Patient Care Association will continue to work in a responsible, professional manner to protect patient’s access to medicine by promoting the legal, safe, and responsible operation of Medical Cannabis Collectives.
